A Question to My Fellow Gen-Y, Gen-Z People
This post was written after witnessing the falling morale standards with my fellow Gen-Y, Gen-Z people.
Before you start, please excuse yourself from reading this post further, if you don't like being told the truth to your face. Because this post does some of that. Forgive the attitude too, as I'm that irritated.
With that being said, let me get to the point(or questions to be precise).
What is wrong with you my dear friends? When did we get this sense of entitlement to a job, to a nice salary, without really working for it or in fact, being even qualified for that?
Nowadays, I often see people claiming that organizations are 'supposed' to hire them, when they are not qualified. I see people blaming some organizations(mostly IT Organizations blamed by students from non IT stream), for hiring them, because they're not able to understand what or how things work or how to code. They keep claiming that because they were hired, the IT organizations are supposed to train them, spoon-feed them(pathetic really) and of course pay them during all this. Some even claim that they should have been told months before that they'll be working on so and so stream, and for that they've to learn so and so technology. When the argument is put forth to them that most companies do send a mail that vaguely tells that, they change their argument to something like "Who'll sit and learn during the holidays?" SERIOUSLY? We now have holidays even for learning?
I could go on and on about that class of people, but I don't want to miss out on the other class, who are even worse. At least the previous class of people had some inclination towards reading if they were spoon-fed. These people don't even have that attribute to them.
These are people who get inside an organization, start working. When they're asked to learn something(mostly during the training), they don't do that. But they just keep claiming that they're not familiar with the technologies they're made to work on. When asked the question why can't they learn it then, from the various sources, they simply reply "Who'll learn all that?". When faced with the counter question, "You're getting paid for your learning and your work, why can't you do what you're paid to do?", they respond "We're paid because they're supposed to pay us, I will have fun spending that, won't waste my time with learning". SERIOUSLY?
So where is your morale now? You're paid to do something, but you won't do it, yet you need your employer to pay you? THAT MAKES YOU A BEGGAR, MY FRIEND, WHEN YOU TAKE SOMETHING FOR FREE. DON'T YOU HAVE ANY SELF-RESPECT LEFT IN YOU? ARE YOU A REALLY BEGGAR ?
I can understand that you need to have fun, you need to relax and all that. But why do it on another person's(or organization's) expense? Anyone without self-respect, anyone who wants to enjoy a 'free lunch' throughout their life, anyone who's not ready to work towards 'really earning' their living, is not a human. That is my 'proud' opinion.
As for the people who want to be spoon-fed, you are good at using the social media and the Internet for chatting, stalking people, watching movies and all the rest. But are you going to tell that you can't find any information on current IT trends from the Internet? That you really lack that common sense? You knew what you're getting into, admit that the mistake is with you and try to correct it, it's not too late yet.
And please don't question me about what I do. This is what I am personally:
I won't work in a place where I know they wouldn't be able to pay me what is right for the work I do there, because that's undermining my work and its quality and in effect, myself.
When I work for an employer who pays me, I will work hard to justify what they're paying me. I don't believe in something called as a 'free lunch'. I believe in earning it.
I'LL END HERE, AS IT'S LONG AND RUDE ENOUGH ALREADY. I KNOW THAT I'LL GET FLAMED FOR THIS, CRITICIZED FOR THIS, NAME-CALLINGS ARE GONNA HAPPEN, BUT AM LEAST BOTHERED ABOUT ALL THOSE, AS IT'S MORE PAINFUL FOR ME TO SEE THE INJUSTICE AND SIT QUIET. I'D RATHER TELL THE TRUTH AND FACE THE MUSIC.
